LEC Summer Split begins June 17

The LEC Summer Split – the most important League of Legends competition in the summer – has been scheduled. The tournament organizers announced the start date a few days ago. It will start on June 17. At the same time the line-up was published. Ten teams will compete for the title.

These teams will play the LEC Summer Split

Last year the MAD Lions won the LEC Summer Split. The defending champion will of course be at the start in 2022 as well. Specifically, the line-up looks like this:

  • Astralis
  • Excel Esports
  • Fnatic
  • G2 Esports
  • MAD Lions
  • Misfits Gaming
  • Rouge
  • SK Gaming
  • Team BDS
  • Team Vitality

The mode of the tournament

For the teams, a demanding period of play is on the agenda. There is no question of a breather during the summer months. The relay phase will be played in a double round robin structure. All teams will meet each other twice. The group matches will be played in “best of one” mode.

The top six teams in the season will advance to the playoff stage, where play will continue in a “best of five” mode. Games will be played in double elimination form. After two losses, the LEC Summer Split is over for the teams.

The first three places are important

The goal of the LEC Summer Split teams is clear. They definitely want to be among the top 3. The best three teams will qualify for the League of Legends World Championship. So far, the European eSport clans have not really looked good there.

Last year’s winners, the MAD Lions, failed early on at LoL Worlds 2021. The majority of the LEC Summer Split teams have never played a League of Legends World Championship. For every player and for every eSports clan, the World Championship is the dream stage par excellence.

The prize money at the summer tournament

Of course, the really big money will only be at the LoL Worlds 2022, but the prize money for the LEC Summer Split is also impressive. The pot contains 200,000 €, which will be distributed among the playoff participants. The winning clan alone can collect a sum of €80,000. The money comes from sponsors, among others. The tournament organizer has landed the LEC Summer Split top-class partners. Secret Lab, Red Bull and Warner Bros are on board as cooperation partners.

Our forecast: The favorites for the LEC Summer Split

From our point of view, there is no clear favorite for the Summer Cup. However, if you have the past games of the LEC Spring 2022 in mind, you will probably place your eSports bets on Rouge and G2 Esports. Rouge won the Spring group stage and then marched through to the final in the playoffs.

However, there the eSport Clan has to admit defeat clearly with 0:3 against G2 Esports. The bookmakers will publish their outrights for the tournament in the next few days, which will give you a better idea of the supposed favorites and outsiders.

It was noticeable in the past few days that several teams have changed their squads. Especially Astralis has changed a lot. With Xerxe as the starting jungler, Vizicsacsi as the top laner and JeongHoon in the bottom lane, Astralis could even mutate into the secret favorite of the LEC Summer Split 2022.
