Tips and tricks to improve your CS:GO rankings

It’s time to improve your CS:GO game with our CS:GO guide to improving your positioning.

Even though CS:GO is pretty old at this point, the game has a lot of new players. Some of them take the time to learn how to play by watching videos and streams, while others just want to have fun. Regardless of which group you belong to, this CSGO guide is for you.

Now that you’ve gone over all the popular weapons and some do’s and don’ts, it’s time to focus on something important. Good positioning in CS:GO is one of the few things that separates good players from bad players. This is an essential skill that you must master if you want to succeed.

Some people simply copy other players’ positions without really analyzing why that particular player chose them. While it is true that there are traditional sports you can go to, each map has some particularities. We can’t go over everything, but this guide will try to give you some basic things you should know about positioning in CSGO.

Standard angle vs. off-angle angle

One of the most common dilemmas faced by almost every CSGO player is whether to choose a standard angle or surprise opponents by choosing something strange. Each option works in different scenarios, so it’s hard to point to one and say it’s better than the other. However, if you’re in the game now, it’s best to use some standard angles.

By choosing that position, you already have an advantage over your opponents, as you should be able to shoot first. Also, on most maps like Dust 2, you can shoot and hide immediately afterwards. There are cases where you can change your position and use things like Flashbang to surprise your opponents.

Choose angles where you can’t be killed from behind

Some default locations that TCs go to in order to defend a particular bomb site give them an advantage. However, some of them are much riskier since opponents can kill them from behind.

There are all sorts of examples here, such as the one at site B in Dust 2, where TCs often stay near the big box. This allows them to guard the tunnel, but the T’s can always get out of the way and kill for free. You can avoid this if you have someone on your team to guard this location.

You have to be flexible and change positions.

One of the fundamentals of playing CS:GO is the fact that you need to be flexible and able to adapt to changes. This is not one of those games where you can do the same thing and expect to achieve the same success. Good players will learn your movement pattern and kill you more easily than you expect.

To stand out from the majority of players, you have to know how to adapt to the situation. This means that you have to change your position if you are being bombarded or if your opponent is using cigars. The same applies to situations where you are in a 1v1, 1v2 or 1v3. etc situation.

Try to watch and pick up as much as you can.

People who have watched a professional CS:GO match or some of the high level gaming events have heard of the peen unpeek thing. This is a very successful tactic in CSGO used by all kinds of players. As the name suggests, it allows you to look at your enemies, shoot them and then look up and hide.

Mastering this technique will definitely have a massive impact on your overall win rate. This is especially true if you use it on so-called out-of-place angles. The latter is a term that people use to describe a position that is generally open where people don’t expect to find opponents. In other words, this is one of the best places to go if you want to surprise your opponents.

Being unpredictable definitely helps

This tip is pretty general and can be used for all sorts of things, but it is essential when it comes to positioning in CS:GO. As mentioned, you can’t use a certain position more than once in the same game when playing against experienced opponents. Once they know where you like to go, they will use utilities to counter you and there is nothing else you can do.

Team Combinations

Many people who play CS:GO forget that this is a team-based game. If you play with friends or random people who want to win as much as you do, try to coordinate your positions as efficiently as possible.

In addition to things like map augmentations and other things, you can defend a given bomb site from multiple angles that will fool your opponents. For example, if two people are defending site B in Dust 2, one of them can take one of the obvious spots, i.e. the one near the site.

May I ask you what Render settings you use? Your Quality looks pretty nice and I have some problems with the color red in my videos, or that I just lose a lot of quality when rendering my video in Sony Vegas 12…
