Nimo TV with surprising global withdrawal

#NimoTV has earned a very good reputation in the #eSports scene over the past few years. Numerous important games were streamed via Nimo TV. But this is now probably finally over.

Completely surprisingly, it was announced that Nimo TV will cease its global activities. The news was a shock not only for gamers and eSports fans, but especially for the company’s employees. The decision is said to have been announced internally within the company on April 14 morning. It literally hit the staff out of the blue.

The reasons for the withdrawal of Nimo TV

Behind the portal of Nimo TV is the Chinese company Huya. The company is affected by restrictive sanctions in its home country. In China, eSports and related streaming services are currently being extremely curtailed. There are several new guidelines. In particular, it is now forbidden to make live streams available to under-18s in the country. The result is rapidly declining viewership and thus a drop in revenue.

Investor pulls out of global business

China is China. The world is the world, you might think. But the sanctions on Huya in the country are having a direct impact on international business. Nimo TV was funded and promoted Tencent, an outside investor. However, the financial company has now declared its withdrawal due to the Chinese sanctions. The entire engagement has been discontinued. The consequence – Nimo TV is going off the net.

The previous core business of the streaming platform

Nimo TV was undoubtedly one of the most popular eSports streaming platforms in Asia. The provider primarily focused on mobile games, for example Garenas Free Fire and MOONTONS Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

18 countries affected

According to our experience, 18 countries are affected by the decision. Brazil will probably be hit the hardest. In 2020, Nimo TV already had a 60% market share of broadcasts in South America. In 2021, Huya had also entered into an additional partnership with Riot Games to stream Wild Rift and League of Legends tournaments. Nimo TV has been on a real path to success.

According to internal information from Huya, the decision affects 200 employees in Brazil alone. The staff is not to be completely laid off, but drastically cut.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang League in Brazil

Game organizers and providers are of course also affected by the discontinuation of Nimo TV. MOONTOON had introduced a professional league structure for Mobile Legends Bang Bang in Brazil only in the middle of last year.

It was the company’s first investment outside Southeast Asia. The best players can even qualify for the world championships via the MPL Brazil Champions. With Nimo TV, an important, strategic partner now drops out.

The stream alternatives for the broadcasts

Of course, eSports followers will now have to look for alternative broadcasting options. As unfortunate as the discontinuation of Nimo TV is, other stream services are available. MOONTOON has never committed to a partner for the streams of the games. The games can also be seen in South America via Facebook, TikTok, Youtube and Twitch.

The viewer numbers in the corresponding channels will logically increase. TikTok live in particular could be the beneficiary, as MOONTOON even has a new, exclusive agreement with the provider.
