Cheng Yaojin – The Hot Axe

An illustrious commander who gained popularity at the end of the Sui Dynasty and during the Tang Dynasty is known to have taken part in numerous battles and various conspiracies in support of the Tang Emperors. However, the Emperor of Gaozhong (the husband of Empress Wu Zetian) put an end to his career during the fight against Western Turks when he carelessly massacred the city of Hengdu when the Western Turks eluded his grasp.

After being relieved of his military command and informed that he had perpetrated an atrocity, Cheng Yaojin accepted the chance to become the prefect of the Qi Prefecture and instead asked for his retirement, where he spent the remainder of his life alone. His aggressiveness has been a topic in numerous Chinese cultures, where he is depicted as a heedless warrior who impulsively goes in to thwart a plot yet still saving the day or triumphing by utilizing the same old trick.

Zhu Bajie – The Carefree Warrior

One of Wei’s generals. Xiahou Dun, a distant relative of Cao Cao’s clan, sided with him when he organized the alliance against Dong Zhuo and has been on his side ever since. Xiahou Dun received an arrow wound to the eye while fighting Lu Bu.

He then took off his shot eye and consumed it, claiming that he couldn’t get rid of the essence of his parents. He has been referred to as the One-Eyed General ever since. Even though he didn’t take part in many of Cao Cao’s subsequent battles, he remained Cao Cao’s devoted servant and an effective administrator.

Xiaou Dun – The Unruly Wind

One of Journey to the West’s main protagonists. Marshall Tianpeng, who caught a sight of the moon goddess Chang’e and made advances toward her, was his previous name. He was sentenced to reincarnation on Earth as punishment for this transgression by the Heavens, but due to an accident, he was instead reborn as a Pig Man.

He then presented himself to a family as a capable spouse, but because to his inhumane nature, they were cautious of him and brought along the monk Xuanzang and Sun Wukong, one of his disciples.

He was given the name Zhu Bajie and persuaded to join the trip as restitution for his sins following a fight with the Monkey King. Bajie was able to accompany Xuanzang to the end of his voyage, completing his atonement and earning the title “Cleanser of Altars,” despite his lecherous tendencies haunting him as defects that he continued to struggle with.
