Semi-final Saturday at FISSURE Playground 3 in Suzhou delivered two three-map series, two overtime maps and a grand final nobody would have pencilled in after day one. Legacy edged MIBR 2-1 in an all-Brazilian semi that ended in overtime on Inferno, and G2 came from a map down to beat BETBOOM 2-1. The Counter-Strike title match on Sunday, Sept. 13, is scheduled for 11:00 CEST and pits the world’s No. 8 against the No. 7.
Legacy 2-1 MIBR: Won on the bombsite, not on the scoreboard
The scoreline reads Nuke 13-10, Ancient 11-13, Inferno 16-14 – but the story of the series is how many lost positions Legacy dragged back. On Nuke, MIBR had the map in hand until Legacy won a 2v5 at 7-9 on the lower site and then arT held a 1v2 at 10-10. Those two rounds flipped the map. Ancient went the other way: Legacy led 9-4 before nqz and LNZ pulled MIBR back into it and took the map 13-11.
Inferno was the decider and the pattern repeated. tomaszin produced his best map yet in a MIBR jersey on the A site, but the series ended on B with n1ssim finishing a quad-kill in a 2v5 to close it out in overtime. n1ssim went 58-48 across the series with 91.2 ADR and a 1.32 rating, latto added 60-43 and a 1.29. For MIBR, tomaszin (1.15) and nqz (1.14) carried, while venomzera’s 33-57 and 0.69 was the gap the No. 28 side could not paper over against the No. 8.
G2 2-1 BETBOOM: MATYS keeps them alive, NertZ finishes it
BETBOOM opened Mirage 7-2 and looked like closing quickly. MATYS’s multi-kills cut the half-time deficit to two rounds and he finished the map on a 1.62 rating – 0.81 clear of any teammate – but a Magnojez 1v3 sealed Mirage 13-7 for the Russians. Anubis was the swing: G2 dominated the early T side, zorte’s late 1v3 clutch forced overtime, and G2 held on 16-13. On Ancient, NertZ fake-planted his way through a 1v3 and posted 21 kills, 110.5 ADR and a 1.54 rating in a 13-7 close-out. He topped the series at 1.33.
The final: What the numbers say
On paper this is as tight as a final gets. G2 sit seventh in the current world ranking, Legacy eighth. G2 lost their opener to Astralis, then beat FURIA 2-0 and BETBOOM 2-1. Legacy have been the tournament’s best clutch team and arrive with two Chinese trophies in the last twelve months from back-to-back CS Asia Championship wins – they know how to close on this soil.
For bettors, the interesting angle is the map pool. Legacy have just won two of three maps against MIBR from losing positions, which says more about nerve than about map strength; G2 have played Mirage, Anubis, Ancient and Dust2 in the past two days and looked most comfortable on Ancient. Expect Ancient to be a battleground pick and the underdog price on Legacy to be shorter than their ranking implies.
