The VALORANT offseason in the Americas has barely begun, and ENVY have already stripped their roster down to the frame. Within roughly a day the organisation cleared five people to explore options elsewhere: veteran Daniel “Rossy” Abedrabbo first, followed by duelist Angelo “keznit” Mori, Max “Demon1” Mazanov, Conner “GLYPH” Garcia and assistant coach Alvaro “WKN” Bustos. Each announcement came from the individuals themselves rather than from a single club statement.
Restricted free agency, not outright releases
None of the five has actually been released. All remain under contract and enter what the scene calls restricted free agency: other teams may negotiate, but ENVY still hold the paperwork and would have to agree terms on any move. Demon1’s deal is the only one that runs out at the end of 2026; keznit, GLYPH, Rossy and WKN are signed through 2027, so a buyout or a mutual termination will be needed for each of them. That hands ENVY a degree of leverage in a market that is about to get very busy.
A year of constant rebuilding
ENVY earned their VCT Americas slot by winning Americas Ascension in 2025, but the lineup that got them there never played a franchised match. Two of the Ascension winners, canezerra and ion, were too young for the top circuit, so keznit and Rossy were brought in at the start of the year. keznit arrived with a substantial CV: close to five years at KRÜ Esports, three Masters appearances and four trips to Champions.
Demon1, a Champions winner with Evil Geniuses in 2023, joined between Kickoff and Stage 1 after a short spell as a Cloud9 substitute, taking the place of the benched Hunter “Inspire” Schline. When a 2-3 record in the Stage 1 group stage left ENVY outside the playoffs, the team changed again, benching P0PPIN for GLYPH, who had been let go by Gentle Mates in EMEA only weeks earlier.
Stage 2 was the most promising stretch. After a shaky opening fortnight ENVY found some form in the play-ins, but they ran into G2 Esports in the third lower-bracket round and were eliminated. No playoffs, no Champions, season over.
What is left
ENVY’s active roster is now down to Evan “Eggsterr” Grady and Christian “nightz” Smith, with Dakota “Stunner” MacLeod still in place as head coach. Because Ascension promotions come with a two-year licence, the organisation keeps its Americas slot for 2027 and now has to fill at least three starting positions before Kickoff.
GLYPH, for his part, is pitching himself as a leader. Looking back on a year in which he attended two international events across two regions, he said it gave him “the experience I needed to lead a team next year.”
Why this matters beyond ENVY
The teardown lands in the middle of an unusually early flurry of moves worldwide: Boaster is leaving Fnatic after six years, ENGH is departing the same club, Team Liquid benched purp0 two weeks before Champions Shanghai, and Team Heretics have already parted with Boo and koshmaras. With Champions running from September 24 to October 18, the transfer market will develop in parallel with the biggest event of the year.
For bettors that is worth remembering. Rosters in flux make preseason and early-2027 markets far harder to price, and bookmakers are usually slowest to adjust when a team like ENVY is essentially a blank sheet. Anyone planning to take positions on Kickoff 2027 would do well to compare welcome bonuses and open accounts before the new lineups are announced, rather than chasing odds afterwards.
The obvious question is where Demon1 lands. As the only member of the group with an expiring contract he is the cheapest to acquire, and a former Champions winner on a short deal is exactly the kind of signing that moves lines quickly.
