The Call of Duty League offseason is barely a week old and it already has a headline act. Multiple sources report that Chris “Simp” Lehr has become Paris Gentle Mates’ primary target for the upcoming season – potentially the biggest roster move of the year, and one that would rearrange the top of the Call of Duty betting pecking order before a single map is played.
Nothing is signed. Neither the French organisation nor Simp’s representatives have confirmed anything, and until a deal is formally processed this stays a well-sourced rumour rather than a fact. That distinction matters more than usual this year.
Where Gentle Mates stand right now
Paris Gentle Mates rebranded from LA Guerrillas M8 in late 2025 and spent the following months rebuilding, bringing in Envoy, Ghosty, Neptune and Sib as players, with Mayhem and Cheek joining the coaching staff. As things stand, the active roster is down to Sib and JoeDeceives, who arrived from Toronto KOI mid-season, while Estreal has been declared a restricted free agent.
That leaves real space for a marquee signing. Simp is one of the most decorated players the game has produced: three world titles, a stack of CDL Major wins and MVP awards stretching back to his 2019 breakout with eUnited, where he won the CWL Championship and took Champs MVP honours. He has been a cornerstone of the FaZe project in Atlanta and, more recently, with FaZe Vegas, and is widely rated among the best SMG players in the history of the league. His ability to hold and control key map areas would slot neatly into a roster built around flexibility.
He is also not the only domino. Atlanta FaZe and OpTic Texas are both expected to make significant changes, which means the market for elite slayers is about to get very crowded.
MW4 changes the maths
Roster churn is only half the story. Call of Duty NEXT 2026 runs on Aug. 21 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 6pm CEST on the official Call of Duty YouTube and Twitch channels, and it doubles as the global reveal for Modern Warfare 4. The Early Access Beta goes live immediately after the broadcast and runs to Aug. 25 for pre-order holders, Discord Nitro users and code holders, with the Open Beta following from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 on all platforms, Nintendo Switch 2 included.
A new title means a new weapon meta, new movement mechanics and a fresh competitive map pool. Historically, the months after a title switch scramble the hierarchy. Teams that dominated the previous game do not automatically carry that form across, and younger players who click with the new engine routinely outperform their price tags for an entire split.
What this means for the odds
Preseason CDL outrights are always thin on information. A rumour-driven roster market layered on top of an untested game makes them thinner still: prices in August move on reports, not results. If a bookmaker is already offering a “Simp signs with X” special, be clear that you are betting on how a rumour resolves rather than on how a team plays, and novelty specials carry a noticeably bigger margin than standard match markets. Shopping around helps here, and a no-deposit offer is a low-risk way to check how deep a sportsbook’s CDL coverage really goes before you commit a bankroll to it.
The more disciplined route is simply to wait. Confirmed rosters land first, then online qualifiers, then the opening Major group stage. By that point there is actual MW4 data to work with – Hardpoint hold times, respawn win rates, Search and Destroy round splits – instead of reputation carried over from Black Ops 7. Map-count and series markets in the first competitive weeks generally offer better value than an outright placed before anyone has scrimmed the new title seriously.
And if you are opening an account for the new season, read the odds thresholds and turnover conditions attached to welcome bonuses before depositing. The headline number is rarely the part that decides whether an offer is worth taking.
