The mighty Nigma Galaxy resumed their dominance from the previous year at ESL Impact Katowice 2023, defeating #NAVI Javelins 2-0 to win their fourth Impact title. The Russian team earned its victory by defeating their opponent 16-9 on Nuke and then outlasting them 22-19 in overtime on Vertigo.
Since Nigma Galaxy has completely dominated the Impact circuit since its beginning and has won every #LAN tournament that has been held, this was the outcome that everyone was anticipating. Both #FURIA fe in the semifinals and NAVI Javelins in the final tested them in this competition, but they stood their ground and won the award.
The Road To The Title
While NAVI Javelins didn’t make it to the Season 1 or Season 2 finals, they did place in the top four in Valencia, and they once more shown their talent here in Katowice, this was their first shot for an Impact trophy.
Regarding the actual game, the defending Impact champions Nigma Galaxy dominated their Polish opponents with ease, storming to a 12-3 CT half on their opponent’s map of Nuke, in large part thanks to an astounding 2.07-rated half from Alexandra #twenty3 Timonina.
The Nigma Galaxy T side got off to a rocky start, raising the possibility of a NAVI Javelins comeback, but after Ana #ANa Dumbravă and company got their first T round on the board, things went smoothly.
NAVI Javelins made a loud entrance on the T side of Vertigo to show that they were not going down without a fight. Nigma Galaxy struggled to string rounds together due to the Polish team’s superiority, but they managed to put together five rounds before the second session began.
After a back-and-forth beginning to the second half, NAVI Javelins eventually reached 14 before being forced to double eco and allowing Nigma Galaxy to come back into the game via an odd economic choice with no loss bonus.
Nigma capitalized on this and appeared to be heading for victory, but NAVI Javelins made a major difference with their pistols to help send the game into overtime.
Similar to regulation, there wasn’t much separating the two teams in overtime, but Nigma Galaxy shown greater tenacity to emerge victorious and win the map 22-19.
We were assured a fresh opponent for the grand final because the semi-final matchup between Nigma Galaxy and FURIA fe, the winners of the previous three Impact LAN tournaments, took place.
The Brazilians, who were eliminated 1-2 by the defending Impact champions, were left feeling disappointed about their inability to win their group, but they did at least put up a better fight than their previous two tries by capturing a map.
Olga #Olga Rodrigues, who achieved a server-leading 1.47 rating while losing, deserves a lot of praise for her outstanding performance.
In the other semifinal, NAVI Javelins easily dispatched B4 fe of Brazil, winning 2-0, to go to the championship game against Nigma. Wiktoria #vicu Szczepanowska and Angelika #Angelka Kozowska Janicka did the most of the work for the Polish team, contributing over 90 ADR apiece and earning ratings of 1.53 and 1.42, respectively.
