The Call of Duty esports calendar hits its biggest checkpoint of the summer today, as the Warzone Resurgence Series Championship reaches its Match Point Finals at the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 in Paris. A $1,000,000 prize pool is on the line, and after three days of qualifying action, the field has been trimmed to the 16 squads with a genuine shot at the title.
Getting here wasn’t easy. The 32-team Group Stage split the field into two pools that each played 12 matches over two days. Group A was topped by Twisted Minds (313.4 points), well clear of Virtus.pro, Ravens Esports, T1, and Gen.G Esports, who rounded out the top five. Group B produced a tighter race, with JD Gaming (240 points) narrowly holding off G2 Esports, Gentle Mates, Ninjas in Pyjamas eStar, and AG.AL for the automatic qualifying spots.
Teams that missed the direct cut went into a Survival Stage on August 1, and it’s here that Team Falcons made their statement. Riding momentum from back-to-back LAN wins at DreamHack Birmingham and DreamHack Atlanta, the trio of Hisoka, Newbzz, and Dongy topped the ten-match Survival Stage with 237 points, edging Team Vitality, Leviatan, NOVO Esports, PBJ, and Ekletyc into the last six finals berths. Geekay Esports missed out by the narrowest of margins, finishing seventh.
The Match Point Finals format itself rewards consistency over one big game: there’s no fixed match limit. Once a team crosses 150 total points it becomes “Match Point Eligible,” and from that moment on, the next Match Point-eligible squad to simply win a match is crowned champion on the spot — meaning several teams can be racing for the finish line simultaneously.
Defending champions Twisted Minds return to protect their crown, though the roster has shifted since last year’s win: Almond, Blazt, and Shifty now carry the flag, with 2025 stars Aydan and zSmit having since moved on to Gen.G and Team Vitality respectively.
Betting markets have been moving fast. On Polymarket’s dedicated Warzone winner market, AG.AL and Twisted Minds have emerged as the most heavily backed outcomes as the finals get underway, with Team Falcons close behind given their red-hot Survival Stage form. That’s a notable shift from a week ago, when Gentle Mates and G2 Esports were sharing favoritism — a reminder of how quickly Warzone betting lines can move once real results start rolling in.
With prize money running from $250,000 for first place down to smaller shares across the full 32-team field, and Club Championship points also on the line, every match today carries extra weight.
