Brazil’s Counter-Strike scene delivered a shake-up at the bottom of the Major picture this weekend. BESTIA lifted the Circuit X Curitiba Season 3 trophy on Sunday, Fluxo knocked out top seed paiN on their way to third place, and the two challengers now sit joint-tenth in the Americas Valve Regional Standings (VRS) – only 14 points short of the zone that currently leads to the Singapore Major.
BESTIA’s first LAN with drop and kauez ends in a title
Curitiba was BESTIA’s first offline event since bringing in André “drop” Abreu and Kaue “kauez” Kaschuk, and the new-look lineup lost just one series all week. A 0-2 group-stage defeat to Galorys was the only blemish: BESTIA beat CLANSBR twice, edged Imperial 2-1, swept ShindeN in the semi-final and closed the tournament with a 2-0 over Bounty Hunters in the final.
The run was worth 204 Valve points, and drop – a supportive player who rarely features in MVP debates – was named tournament MVP by Dust2 Brasil. He admitted afterwards that he had never expected an individual award in his role, but read it as a sign that the team is heading in the right direction at this early stage.
Fluxo upset paiN, paiN leave with just 14 points
Fluxo’s week was less tidy but arguably more consequential. After finishing second to ShindeN in Group C, the Brazilians upset top seed paiN in the quarter-final, fell to Bounty Hunters in the semi-final, then beat ShindeN in the third-place decider. That result lifts them level with BESTIA in the regional standings.
For paiN, the tournament was another missed opportunity. Rodrigo “biguzera” Bittencourt’s side collected only 14 points and remain ninth in the Americas VRS, with two hungry rivals now breathing down their neck. HLTV’s world ranking still places paiN at #27, well clear of Fluxo (#61) and BESTIA (#90), but it is the VRS that decides Major invitations – and there the cushion has all but vanished.
What comes next
All three teams go straight back into action. paiN head to FERJEE In House from September 23 to 27, where Imperial and Bounty Hunters are the main obstacles to a title that would restore some breathing room. BESTIA fly to the United States for iBUYPOWER Masters FML, while Fluxo travel to Portugal for LEON.bet Masters Season 1 – both events offer VRS points abroad, where wins over stronger opposition are rewarded disproportionately under Valve’s formula.
Betting angle: a three-way race with real volatility
For bettors, this is exactly the kind of storyline that moves markets. paiN remain the highest-rated Brazilian team on paper and will be favourites at FERJEE, but their recent domestic results argue for scepticism towards short prices. BESTIA arrive at iBUYPOWER Masters with momentum and a confident new duo, while Fluxo have just proven they can beat a higher-ranked side in a best-of-three.
