The Dota 2 Esports World Cup 2026 has wrapped up in Paris, and the $2 million event delivered the kind of result that quietly rewrites a season. PVISION lifted the trophy after a 3-1 win over BB Team in the best-of-five grand final, banking $750,000 and 1,000 club points — while defending EWC champions Team Spirit went out in the quarterfinals.
PVISION never looked shaky
Of the 24 teams that arrived in Paris on July 7, only four earned a direct playoff seed by topping their group. PVISION were one of them, closing Group C at 4-1-0 with a 9-1 game record that included a 2-0 over Vici Gaming and a drawn series against Team Spirit. That group win mattered: it let Satanic, No[o]ne-, Noticed, 9Class and Dukalis skip the single-elimination Survival Stage entirely and enter the bracket rested.
From there the run was tidy. They went 2-0 past Rune Eaters in the quarterfinals, 2-1 over Team Yandex in the semifinals, and then closed out BB Team in the final. BB Team had arrived from the opposite direction, surviving the Survival Stage before sweeping Nigma Galaxy and Vici Gaming without dropping a map — momentum that ran out in the longer best-of-five.
Team Spirit’s title defence collapsed early
Spirit’s Paris trip defined the back half of the tournament. Second in Group C behind PVISION, they were pushed into the Survival Stage, edged Team Liquid 2-1, then ran into Team Yandex in the quarterfinals and lost 0-2. They finished in the 5th-8th bracket alongside Nigma Galaxy, Team Falcons and Rune Eaters for $70,000 each.
Falcons’ exit was arguably the bigger upset. The reigning The International champions topped Group A at 4-1-0 and then lost 0-2 to Vici Gaming, the Chinese qualifier squad built around TI6 winners Bach and y`. Vici went on to reach the semifinals and finish fourth for $120,000.
The integrity story in the middle of it
The tournament also had an off-server headline. PlayTime were removed from the event after ESIC issued provisional suspensions to midlaner DarkMago and coach Vintage over an integrity issue, forfeiting their Survival Stage series against Vici Gaming. There is a practical lesson for bettors here: bookmakers handle walkovers and removed teams differently, so it is worth reading a book’s specific rules on forfeits before staking on an event of this size.
Why this matters for TI 2026 markets
The International 2026 field is already locked at 16 teams, and the EWC result cuts across the seeding logic. Falcons, Team Liquid, 1win Team, Aurora Gaming, Xtreme Gaming, Team Yandex and BoomBoys (BetBoom) hold Valve’s seven direct invites. Spirit and PVISION — who compete at TI under the TEAM VISION banner — both had to grind through the unified European qualifier, so neither arrives as an untouchable favourite.
Three things worth pricing in. PVISION now have a tier-one trophy and a clean bracket run behind them. Spirit have lost to Yandex-tier opposition at the biggest event of the summer and look beatable in a best-of-three. And Vici Gaming, on the evidence of Paris, are far stronger than a typical China qualifier seed. Anyone building an outright position on TI should weigh form since June more heavily than reputation carried over from last season.
