Falcons Lock Down m0NESY Through 2030 – and a Farewell Teaser Turns Out to Be a Joke

Team Falcons have tied their star AWPer to the organization for the long haul. Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov has signed an extension that runs through 2030, a four-year commitment whose financial terms were not made public. The announcement ended weeks of nervous speculation among fans of the Counter-Strike 2 scene.

A teaser that looked like a goodbye

The confusion came from the way Falcons rolled out the news. The caption on the announcement video thanked the player “for everything”, which read like a farewell message and sent social media into a short panic. It turned out to be a deliberate tease: the video was the lead-in to the extension, not an exit. Few organizations play with their fan base’s emotions quite like that, but it certainly guaranteed attention.

Why the deal matters

At 21, m0NESY is already one of the defining players of his generation. He moved to Falcons from G2 Esports in April 2025, and the payoff arrived this summer at the IEM Cologne Major in June 2026. Falcons swept FURIA 3-0 in the grand final, and m0NESY was voted tournament MVP with an HLTV rating of 1.27. Keeping the core of a Major-winning roster together through the end of the decade gives Falcons rare stability in a sport where rosters are reshuffled almost every few weeks – just look at the recent Astralis benching of two veterans.

For anyone who follows markets, long-term contracts also change how teams are priced. A settled lineup with an established star usually produces more predictable form, which is one reason bettors tend to watch roster news closely before comparing prices at the esports bookmakers they use.

What is next for Falcons

The calendar is packed. Falcons are currently at the Thunderpick World Championship in Malta, an eight-team event with a $1 million prize pool running from October 14 to 18. They opened the group stage against Ninjas in Pyjamas on October 14. Reports from the scene show BetBoom and FURIA among the teams that have reached the playoffs ahead of Legacy, so the bracket is already stacked with serious contenders.

After Malta, Falcons head to IEM Beijing from November 2 to 8, a 16-team tournament with a $1.25 million prize pool, and then to BLAST Rivals Fall in Hong Kong from November 11 to 15, another eight-team event.

One notable absence: Falcons turned down an invitation to PGL Masters Bucharest, which runs October 24 to 31 in Romania with a $1.25 million prize pool and a 16-team Swiss stage followed by a playoff. Vitality, MOUZ, FURIA, G2, Aurora, NaVi and Team Spirit are among the twelve teams that qualified through Valve’s regional standings, and they will be playing without the Major champions.

The bottom line

Falcons now have their best player locked in until 2030, a Major trophy in the cabinet and a busy autumn ahead. Whether the long-term stability translates into more titles will be tested quickly, starting with the playoffs in Malta this weekend.
