Day two of FISSURE Playground 3 in Suzhou turned into a bloodbath for the favourites. Two of the biggest names in the Counter-Strike 2 betting scene, FaZe and The MongolZ, are already on their way home in joint-last place, while FURIA and BETBOOM locked up playoff spots alongside MIBR and Legacy, who had booked their tickets earlier in the day. BIG and GamerLegion were also eliminated with 0-2 records.
FaZe’s hot streak ends with two upsets
FaZe arrived in China as the highest-profile casualty candidate nobody saw coming. Their new lineup around Twistzz, frozen, jcobbb, Neityu and JBOEN had climbed from outside the top 20 to 10th in the Valve ranking, and before this week their only series losses had come against PARIVISION, Spirit and Vitality. Only three teams ranked above them were even in attendance: FURIA, G2 and Legacy.
Then Alliance, ranked 50th, beat them 2-0 in the Group B opener. The lower-bracket rematch against magic went the distance: FaZe took Ancient 16-14 in overtime, dropped Dust2 13-10, and lost a marathon Cache 19-16 after another overtime. Twistzz posted a 1.26 series rating and MaSvAl answered with 1.24 for magic, but FaZe’s Neityu struggled at 0.82. The consequences reach beyond Suzhou. FaZe missed the Cologne Major by a hair, and their only remaining scheduled event before the November invite deadline for the PGL Singapore Major is Stake Ranked Episode 4.
Mongolian derby goes to 5star
The MongolZ suffered the same fate in Group A. After losing an overtime decider to MIBR in their opener, they met their countrymen 5star, ranked 127th, in the lower bracket and fell 2-0 on Inferno (13-9) and Nuke (13-11). It was their first LAN defeat against another Mongolian team in five meetings. cobrazera, back from the bench in place of Techno following the departures of Senzu and mzinho, delivered a 1.34 rating to no avail, while newcomers DarkMeister and tikuak finished at 0.88 and 0.64. 5star’s rate was the standout of the day with a 1.68 rating and +6.60% round swing.
FURIA and BETBOOM secure playoff spots
FURIA closed out Group B’s winners’ match with a 2-0 over PARIVISION, taking Ancient 13-11 and then surviving a wobble on Inferno, where a 9-4 lead nearly evaporated before they closed it 13-11. KSCERATO (1.60) and molodoy (1.51) carried the Brazilians. In Group A, BETBOOM beat Astralis 2-0, winning Ancient 16-14 in overtime and Anubis 13-8, with Boombl4 in red-hot form. Astralis’ phzy was a full 0.44 rating clear of any teammate but could not prevent the drop to the lower bracket.
BIG went out 1-2 to G2 after weak CT halves on Mirage and Ancient, and a Snax-less GamerLegion lost 0-2 to home favourites TYLOO after pushing FURIA to the limit a day earlier.
What’s left on Thursday
The group stage wraps up on September 10. Elimination matches at 05:00 CEST pit 9z against G2 and Alliance against TYLOO, followed at 08:00 by Astralis vs 5star and magic vs PARIVISION. The upper-bracket finals MIBR vs BETBOOM and Legacy vs FURIA at 11:00 decide seeding, and the two lower-bracket finals at 14:00 hand out the last playoff tickets.
