Day one of FISSURE Playground 3 delivered exactly the kind of chaos a field without Spirit, Falcons, MOUZ and Vitality was always likely to produce. In the opening round of Group B in China, Alliance swept FaZe 2-0, and MIBR came from a map down to beat The MongolZ 2-1 – two results that will have caught plenty of Counter-Strike bettors on the wrong side of the line.
Alliance return from a two-month break and sweep FaZe
Alliance had not played an official match in almost two months. Their last outing was an early exit from BLAST Bounty at the hands of Wildcard, and the Swedish squad arrived in China as a clear underdog against FaZe. None of that showed on the server. They face Legacy next for a place in the playoffs, while FaZe drop to the lower bracket and must beat magic on Wednesday to stay in the tournament.
MIBR reverse a 5-13 start against The MongolZ
Group B’s other headline match went the distance. MIBR, playing their first LAN with new Argentinian rifler tomaszin, were hammered 5-13 on Ancient by a MongolZ side missing Techno. The Brazilians then flipped the script, taking Mirage 13-10 and Inferno 13-10 to win 2-1.
tomaszin’s debut mirrored his team’s arc: a 0.55 rating on Ancient, followed by 1.30 on Mirage and 1.06 on the decider. The turning point on Inferno was a 1v3 clutch from nqz that broke The MongolZ’s momentum, and a string of uncharacteristic errors from the Mongolians did the rest. MIBR now meet 9z for a playoff spot, while The MongolZ face compatriots 5star in the lower bracket.
9z and Legacy also through
Earlier on Tuesday, 9z dispatched 5star 2-0 without much resistance, and Legacy edged magic in a tight three-map series. That sets up Legacy vs. Alliance and 9z vs. MIBR as Wednesday’s upper-bracket deciders, with FaZe vs. magic and 5star vs. The MongolZ as the elimination matches.
