The Rainbow Six Siege event at the Esports World Cup 2026 has reached the halfway point of its group stage, and the picture in Paris looks nothing like the one most people sketched out a week ago. Two days of play at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles pushed Wildcard, DarkZero, Geekay Esports and FaZe Clan into the strongest positions in their groups, while two of the most heavily fancied rosters in the field were knocked onto the harder route.
Falcons and Team Secret hit trouble early
Team Falcons opened confidently with a 7-4 win over M80 on Aug. 6, but Wildcard shut that down a day later, sweeping the Saudi side 2-0 with a 7-5 win on Bank and an 8-6 finish on Fortress. Defending Esports World Cup champions Team Secret fared even worse: DarkZero handed them a 7-3 defeat in the best-of-one opener, then backed it up by grinding past play-in survivors CAG by VARREL 2-1, dropping Lair 2-7 before closing out Bank and Kafe.
Geekay Esports have been the surprise of the week. They edged ENTERPRISE Esports 8-7 in overtime on day one, then dismantled FURIA 2-0, taking both Lair and Nighthaven Labs 7-4. FaZe Clan completed the quartet of unbeaten teams, brushing aside FNATIC 7-2 before recovering from a 2-7 loss on Fortress to beat Virtus.pro 2-1.
Who is still alive
The play-ins had already thinned the field. CAG by VARREL and FNATIC came through Phase 2 – CAG beating Shopify Rebellion 2-1, FNATIC taking down Al-Ula Club 2-0 – while Shopify Rebellion, Al-Ula, TYLOO, MIBR.LOS, Chiefs Esports Club and KINGZERO eSports all went home with between $15,000 and $20,000.
Saturday’s elimination matches carry real weight. Team Secret face AG.AL, Team Liquid meet M80, FNATIC play EDward Gaming and Weibo Gaming take on ENTERPRISE. Four of those eight teams will be out of the tournament by the end of the day.
What is at stake
Twenty-two teams started the event, but only the top four from each group reach the playoffs – an eight-team single-elimination bracket in which every series is a best-of-three until the best-of-five Grand Final on Aug. 15. The champion takes $750,000 from the $2 million pool, along with 1,000 EWC Club Points and a direct invitation to the Six Invitational 2027. The tournament MVP picks up an extra $25,000.
How the market has shifted
Falcons and Team Secret arrived in Paris as two of the shortest prices on the board, and both now face the longer route through the lower bracket. Swings like that tend to show up quickly in the outright and map-handicap markets offered by esports bookmakers, and momentum sides such as Geekay and Wildcard rarely stay generously priced once they string wins together.
It is also worth remembering how tight R6 maps are at this level. The 8-7 and 7-5 scorelines above are typical rather than exceptional, which makes map handicaps considerably less comfortable than a lopsided head-to-head record suggests. For anyone comparing sites before the playoffs begin, the wagering terms attached to a welcome bonus usually matter more than the headline number.
