The wait is almost over: the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage opens on October 23 in Allen, Texas, and the draw for Round 1 has produced some of the most intriguing openers in recent memory. Sixteen teams will fight for eight knockout spots, and anyone following the League of Legends esports scene has plenty to look forward to.
How the Swiss Stage works
The 16 teams are split into four seeding pools. Pool 1 meets Pool 4, while Pool 2 meets Pool 3, and teams from the same region cannot face each other in Round 1. All eight opening matches are best-of-one. Winners then play other winners and losers play other losers, with Round 2 scheduled for October 24. No team can meet the same opponent twice during the stage.
When the final Swiss matches wrap up on October 31, the two undefeated 3-0 teams each take on a 3-2 team, and the remaining four qualifiers are paired up for the knockout bracket that starts on November 3.
The Round 1 matchups
Gen.G face Invictus Gaming, Team Liquid meet CTBC Flying Oyster, G2 Esports take on Dplus KIA, and Hanwha Life Esports play Top Esports. LOS from Brazil draw T1, Team Secret Whales meet LYON, and Bilibili Gaming face Movistar KOI. The standout tie pairs Anyone’s Legend with Karmine Corp.
Karmine Corp: debut on the big stage
Karmine Corp earned their first-ever Worlds appearance by winning the Play-In. They beat MVK Esports 3-0 in the final, with Kyeahoo dominating the early games and Busio shutting down MVK’s unconventional “no laning” plan in Game 3 by roaming and harassing with Leona. Along the way KC also came back from a 2-1 deficit against Cloud9, while MVK had to fight through the lower bracket after losing to KC in the winners’ bracket.
That run makes KC Europe’s third representative alongside G2 Esports and Movistar KOI. All three LEC sides were drawn against Korean or Chinese opponents, so the region’s depth will be tested immediately. KC’s opener against the LPL’s first seed is a tough assignment, but a best-of-one format leaves room for surprises.
What to watch
Korea (LCK) and China (LPL) each send four teams, which makes cross-regional clashes the story of the opening round. Round 1 is also where first impressions form: a single upset can reshape how the market views a team for the rest of the stage. Fans who like to follow the action with a wager should compare odds across providers and read up on how welcome bonuses work before claiming any offer, since wagering requirements differ a lot. Always bet responsibly and only within your means.
Match order is still to be confirmed, so keep an eye on the official schedule as October 23 approaches.
