The International 2026 has reached the sharp end of its Swiss group stage in Shanghai, and the early story is one that anyone following Dota 2 betting markets should pay attention to: the teams topping the table are not the ones that opened as favourites.

Defending champions are wobbling
Team Falcons, who lifted the Aegis last year, are stuck on 2-2 with an even 6-6 game record. Losses to TEAM VISION and Iron Wing have left them fighting to avoid a longer, riskier path through the bracket. That matters beyond pride. Captain-support Sneyking and carry skiter are chasing a third Aegis apiece, a mark no player has ever hit, and coach Aui_2000 is after a fourth title overall. Falcons still have the individual talent to win the event, but their group-stage form has taken the shine off any short outright price.
Why the format punishes early conclusions
The Swiss stage sends the top three straight to the Main Event, drops teams placed fourth through 13th into an elimination round where only five survive, and knocks out the bottom three. HULIGANI, Xtreme Gaming and OG have already been eliminated. Everyone else is still alive, which is precisely why group-stage results are a shaky basis for outright bets: a team that scrapes through the elimination round still enters a clean double-elimination bracket with everything to play for.
The Main Event runs from Aug. 20 to 23 at the Oriental Sports Center, with best-of-three matches throughout and a best-of-five grand final. The prize pool sits at roughly $2.9 million, with about $1.23 million going to the champion.
