Karmine Corp is the only team from Europe who has already confirmed their attendance at the Winter Major in San Diego after two Winter Regionals and two victories.
Thirteen teams are still in the running for the four remaining Major slots as Europe’s last Winter Split tournament is the sixteen-team Winter Invitational.
Nine of the teams are in charge of their own fate, but four—including the defending world champions Team BDS—require assistance even when they win.
The Current Situation
Three categories may be used to categorize the nine teams that are in charge of their own fate. Team Liquid, Oxygen Esports, and Team Vitality are the three teams who may win the tournament by making it to the semifinals.
Team Vitality, Team Liquid, and Oxygen Esports have all accomplished that result or better at least once this Split: Team Vitality and Team Liquid advanced to the finals of the Winter Open and Winter Cup, respectively, and Oxygen Esports has thus far advanced to the semifinals of both competitions.
German Amigos and Quadrant are the two teams that can win by making it to the championship game. Both of the teams have already made one semifinal appearance this Split, while Quadrant appeared in the grand finals last Split.
Moist Esports, Williams Resolve, G1, and Soniqs are the four teams in complete control of their own fate, but they must win the Winter Invitational to seal the deal. All of these teams have at least once qualified for the quarterfinals this Split, but none have advanced. To win the Winter Invitational and guarantee their place in San Diego, they’ll all need to raise up their game significantly.
Without achieving the aforementioned objectives, any one of these nine teams might still win, but other outcomes would have to go their way. Even with a Regional victory, the remaining four teams, Team BDS, suhhh, Solary, and Tundra Esports, all need additional outcomes to go their way.
While Solary and Tundra Esports need to win to have a chance at competing in the Winter Major, Team BDS and suhhh would be eliminated if they failed to get to the grand finals.
