After one season with the team, #TeamLiquid has parted ways with legendary #LeagueofLegends mid laner #Bjergsen, the company announced today.

Following his professional playing career came to an end after the 2020 season, Bjergsen made a comeback in the #LCS by joining Team Liquid. In order to compete in and possibly advance far in the World Championship, the franchise assembled a “super team” around Bjergsen, but Liquid was unable to do so.

What caused the departure?

In a video uploaded by Liquid on social media, Bjergsen said: “There are still a lot of nice things to take away and I formed some excellent relationships with individuals here. In terms of competing, we didn’t really get the results that we expected.”

Bjergsen and Team Liquid came one game short of qualifying for the World Championship this season after finishing fourth in the LCS Summer Split playoffs. The squad lost narrowly at home despite having a roster stacked with seasoned Western players, including top laner Bwipo and AD carry Hans Sama, both of whom were signed before the season in the hopes of competing for the Summoner’s Cup.

Bjergsen has only ever played for Liquid and TSM during his LCS career. Between 2014 and 2021, he spent all of his time in North America with TSM, both as a player and a coach. Although offseason speculations tying him to teams like 100 Thieves, among others, have started to emerge, his future in the league is now undetermined.

Bjergsen remarked, “I just wanted to thank the TL fans for being so welcoming and accepting from the beginning. The fans have been extremely lovely and welcoming, and now that I’m going somewhere, I hope that you guys are going to keep supporting me,” said the player who had been battling against TL for so long. “I was a little bit nervous because I had been competing against TL for so long.”

What’s Next For Liquid?

Liquid will probably decide to completely rebuild after this season. Hans Sama and now Bjergsen have already left the squad, making room for newcomers like Academy-level players Yeon and Haeri to perhaps debut on the roster next season.

In addition, it was revealed this week by independent League writer Brieuc Seeger that Liquid will continue to have CoreJJ as a supporter through the 2023 season. This past week, CoreJJ was involved in managing Liquid’s Academy and Amateur-level tryouts.

The League’s global contract database shows that Bjergsen’s contract is still in effect. After the conclusion of the upcoming season, his contract with the team was due to expire.
